The Great Pumpkin Rises Out of the Pumpkin Patch

Anyone remember that line? From Charlie Brown?

So anyway, I finally got round to cooking that pumpkin I bought, so I can use the purée to bake sometime next week.

I searched through the web for how-to’s and they were all pretty much the same, so here’s the process I went through in pictures.

1. First get your pumpkin.

2. Cut it in half. Preheat your oven to 220 deg C.

3. Scoop out the pumpkin seeds and the fibrous pulpy stuff with a spoon.

4. Lay your pumpkin pieces on a baking tray and put a little water into the tray. Put the tray in the oven for 30-40 minutes.

5. When the pumpkin looks very cooked, remove from the oven.

6. Scoop out the cooked meat, put it into a blender, and blend. Voila – homemade pumpkin purée!

7. Put the puree into containers, and store it in the fridge if you’re using it in the next couple of days, otherwise freeze it (I think you can keep it frozen for many months).
