This afternoon, as I thought about what to cook for dinner tonight, I suddenly felt in the mood to use up the little packet of mee sua I had bought a few weeks back.
So I googled a little bit, and found a great recipe online that looked easy enough to do. I modified it here and there to suit my taste, and we had some very delicious mee sua for dinner tonight!
Minced Pork Mee Sua
INGREDIENTS (enough for two very hungry people)
- 3 tbsp oil
- 4 black mushrooms, softened in water and cut into strips
- 1oog minced pork, rinsed
- 2 eggs
- Fistful of ikan bilis
- 4 rice bowls of water
- 150-200g mee sua (two bundles or slightly less, depending on how hungry you are)
- Fried shallots & chopped spring onion for garnish
DIRECTIONS

Very easy to make, and very delicious! It’s has a lot of the same ingredients as the mian fen guo you get at the hawker centre, but it tastes better, because you can use as much of the ingredients as you like, very little oil is involved, and there’s no msg at all. The total cost to me of making the two very substantial bowlso of mee sua (that could probably have fed three less hungry people) was just over $6, so no worse than eating out =)

maybe u can consider freezing some chicken or pork bones stock for future usage as the soup.
Oh but this was very tasty already cos of the egg and ikan bilis!
The pork bone stock sounds good though.. how long do you need to boil the pork bones? And what do you usually use the stock for?
Looks like an easy receipe and sounds so yummy too =) I have to try it this week!
Let me know how it goes =) Oh yeah when you pour in the water, you might like to add 1tbsp of light soya sauce if you prefer it just a little saltier.
not to sure how long to boil the soup cos i usually gauge by the taste. maybe an hour? u can consider adding dried scallop too. u can use the soup to cook pork porridge very tasty. I use it to make double boil soup. probably shorten the time. so what for this weekend?
I made it for lunch and it turned out quite well! I seasoned the minced pork with salt, pepper and chai por. I also preboiled the ikan bilis, then added this stock as the soup instead of plain water.
Wow very good Bryce’s Mommy! Mine is the low fuss version! Yeah preboiling the ikan is a good idea.. I just didn’t have time when I first did it =)
Another friend tried the recipe too and she liked it also.
